MJS projects took on Gerrard as a T-Level Placement student from City College Norwich (CCN).
(T-Levels students have to complete 315 hours of placement across the duration of the 2 year course.)
It was agreed with Gerrard that he would work with MJS Projects 5 days a week through the summer on the ACE Building refurbishment project at CCN. This meant Gerrard could become part of the team and see a project through from start to finish. Gerrard excelled at the task and was offered a role in the business. MJS Projects supported him through his second year of T-Levels, he achieved the grades required and was taken on as a Trainee Site Manager and subsequently enrolled on a Degree Apprenticeship at Anglia Ruskin University. Gerrard is now a full member of the team and has 1 day a week committed to continuing his studies. The courses are subsidised, businesses only pay 5% of the course fees with 95% being government funded.
We need to make sure all businesses understand these processes and the advantages you can gain, but also that students and parents understand the advantages. Gerrard has a full-time job, a car and if studies go to plan will achieve an BSc Honour Degree and leave with no debt. This has to be a selling point to construction careers.
